Our Story
The Windmill at Jasmyn, a beloved landmark in Hartbeespoort, was built by the Erasmus family, beginning with John and Eefje Erasmus. Today, their sons, along with their wives, manage the enterprise, with the third generation ready to continue the legacy.

John grew up in Boksburg with Afrikaans parents of Greek heritage, while Eefje immigrated to South Africa from Landsmeer, Holland, at the age of 12. This Dutch connection is reflected in the name of the Equestrian Estate "Landsmeer" across from Jasmyn. Although windmills are often associated with Holland, they originated in Mediterranean countries. The Dutch primarily used them to pump water from dykes. At Jasmyn, the windmill symbolizes the European and Mediterranean origins of its founders.

Jasmyn's journey began on a small farm about 35 km from Rustenburg on the N4. The farm, with its few fruit trees and a garage-sized farm stall, offered fruit, vegetables, cakes, sweets, and bread, mostly supplied by local farmers' wives or produced on-site. Despite its modest size, the stall gained popularity due to excellent customer service and fresh produce. As the Erasmus sons completed their education, they returned to help expand the business. In 1995, the family renovated the farm stall, adding a bakery, butchery, coffee shop, and a small bookshop loft. Their dedication to quality and service made Jasmyn a well-known stop on the route from Pretoria to Rustenburg.

In 2000, due to mining developments in Marikana, the family relocated Jasmyn to Hartbeespoort, purchasing the historic Meerhof Farm from the Oeshevski family, who had owned it for about 50 years. The farm, rich in history, was once a research site and is part of Hartbeespoort's historical landscape. It features an old dam wall and a pizza oven built by Italian prisoners of war.

In 2001, the Erasmus family moved to Hartbeespoort, embracing a new beginning at Meerhof Farm. This development is a testament to their commitment to community needs and innovation. The family works tirelessly to meet new challenges, driven by a shared vision to leave a lasting legacy that reflects their strong family bond.
